The motor, battery, drivetrain, and brakes will reward you with reliable performance over many thousands of kilometers. What you need to set up your e-bike to clean 

Before you start cleaning your e-bike , lay everything out within easy reach. This will save you time and prevent you from having to search for supplies with wet hands: 

• Bucket filled with warm water and a splash of mild dish soap or special e-bike care product 

• soft sponge and a medium-stiffness brush for the frame

This will give you better access to the sensitive contacts in the battery compartment and prevent water from getting into the connectors. It will also reduce the weight of your e-bike when cleaning . How to Clean Your E-Bike Properly: Step by Step 

You've got everything ready and set the battery aside. Now it's time for the actual cleaning of the e-bike. 

Step 1: Rinse off coarse dirt 

Rinse your e-bike with a gentle stream of water from top to bottom. This way, the dirt washes down instead of getting trapped in the crevices. A lot of dirt accumulates especially on the fenders, tires, fork crowns, and the underside of the down tube. Let the water sit for a moment if the dirt has dried. This will save you a lot of scrubbing later. 

Step 2: Wash the frame and attachments 

Apply the cleaning solution with a soft sponge and work your way systematically along your e-bike: from the handlebars to the stem, top tube, down tube, and seat tube, all the way to the wheels—that is, from front to back and from top to bottom.  

A soft brush is ideal for tight spots, such as the areas around the brake mounts or between the spokes. Avoid harsh cleaners, solvents, or abrasive cleaners. They can damage the paint, seals, and anodized surfaces. A special e-bike care product, bike cleaner, or plain dish soap is perfectly sufficient. 

Step 3: Thoroughly clean the chain and drive system 

Along with the motor and battery, the chain is the heart of your drivetrain—and at the same time the biggest magnet for dirt.  

• First, spray chain cleaner onto the chain and let it sit for a moment 

• Then brush off any remaining dirt with a chain brush or toothbrush.  

• As you do this, turn the pedals backward so that you catch the entire chain.  

• Don't forget the sprocket, chainring, and derailleur pulleys, either. A sticky mixture of old grease and road grime often builds up there.  

• A toothpick or a flathead screwdriver can help you loosen dirt that's stuck between the sprockets.

Step 4: Rinse, dry, and check everything 

Rinse off all soap residue thoroughly and dry your e-bike with clean microfiber cloths. The contacts on the battery compartment, the charging port, and all connectors must completely dry before you reinsert the battery. To make sure you don’t reinsert the battery too soon, you should e-bike after washing , it’s best to 15 to 20 minutes. This allows any residual moisture in hard-to-reach areas to evaporate.

• Grease the battery contacts: After cleaning, apply a very thin layer of contact grease or terminal grease to the metal contacts. This protects against further corrosion and ensures a reliable electrical connection. Less is more here: Too much grease attracts dirt.  

• Check regularly: Check the contacts every four to six weeks, especially if you ride in the rain, in the fall, or in winter. Road salt and moisture significantly accelerate corrosion. 

Engine Care for E-Bike: What You Should Keep in Mind 

The motor of your e-bike—whether it’s a mid-drive motor or a hub motor—is a closed, sealed system. You cannot and should not open it under any circumstances. Nevertheless, there are a few things you can do as part of e-bike cleaning to ensure a long service life: 

• Motor housing Clean it regularly to remove dirt—a damp cloth or soft brush will do. Dirt tends to accumulate especially on the underside of the mid-engine.
