Velomotion Comparison Test 2023
Velomotion’s 2023 E-Bike Leasing Comparison took a closer look at 9 different leasing offers. We at eurorad are proud to have performed so well in the test! The independent cycling magazine velomotion aims to present its readers with the best possible solutions for their cycling experience. That’s why they conduct comparative tests on all topics related to cycling. Since e-bike leasing is likely to account for 50% of all new bike purchases in 2023, velomotion also sees this as a reason for in-depth coverage.
With a minimum price of 357 euros and a maximum price of 20,000 euros for a bicycle, eurorad offers the most flexible price range.
Yes, e-bikes and the cost of purchasing them are expensive. That’s why leasing an e-bike through the Dienstrad program can be a smart and cost-effective way to enjoy the many benefits of a battery-powered bike. One of the biggest advantages is that you can use an e-bike at a relatively low price without having to cover the high upfront cost yourself. Spread out over three years, the monthly lease payment is usually lower than any loan payment. This significantly reduces the financial burden. There are many leasing offers on the market that advertise different costs. When selecting the right offer, in addition to the monthly price, the contract term, and the type of e-bike, you should of course also consider the scope of services, any insurance coverage, or replacement parts that make a lease even more attractive.
Key Differences Among Leasing Offers
Depending on the lease agreement, the price range for a bicycle—from the minimum to the maximum price—can vary significantly. eurorad offers the most flexible price range, with a minimum price of 357 euros and a maximum price of 20,000 euros per bicycle. However, this range may vary depending on the employer. Companies want to prevent the purchase of luxury models that are out of proportion to their employees’ salary brackets. While all leasing providers now guarantee protection for companies—which includes a special right of termination with an associated vehicle buyback—the waiting periods vary. At eurorad, this protection takes effect from day one, whereas with other providers it does not take effect until after six months.
How were the comparisons made?
For its e-bike leasing comparison, Velomotion compared nine major leasing offers using a standardized questionnaire. The comparison examined and verified the leasing and service rates for e-bikes priced at 4,000 and 6,000 euros, as well as insurance and service offerings and background information. Providers with unclear or inconsistent figures were not included. The monthly costs consist of the leasing payment, the insurance premium, and a service fee, with the best possible service package offered by each provider being used in the calculation. The comparison was conducted for e-bikes at higher price points, as this more closely reflects actual market conditions.
No deductible for wear-and-tear repairs
According to the Accident Prevention Regulations (UVV), it is the employer’s responsibility to ensure that employees always ride bicycles that have been fully inspected by a repair shop and are in perfect working order.
"Unlike other leasing providers, we at eurorad cover 100% of wear and tear starting on day one, with no upper limit on the cost."
At least five competitors severely limit coverage for wear-and-tear repairs: 420 euros over a three-year contract term—that’s not enough. And even 900 euros seems like a bad deal when you can get service with no restrictions!
Mobility Guarantee
To be fair, all of the leasing offers tested include a mobility guarantee. However, this guarantee is interpreted differently. With eurorad, the contract holder is covered by a 24-hour service throughout Europe in the event of a bicycle breakdown or theft and receives assistance in the form of towing, onward or return travel, overnight accommodation costs, roadside assistance, recovery, a replacement bicycle, bicycle return transport, and emergency cash. This ensures that the customer can remain mobile in the event of a breakdown. In addition, they receive assistance with the associated costs. With other leasing offers, coverage for these costs may be heavily capped. Furthermore, the service is not available 24 hours a day everywhere.
